DOLPO SHEY GOMPA TREK
A remote, unspoiled region of Nepal, the high valleys of Dolpo are among the most remarkable in the Himalaya.
Here sweeping views stretch as far as the arid Tibetan Plateau. Dolpo has been home to Tibetan people since the 10 th century when the area was part of the western Tibetan region of Ngari and time has changed little here; people live, cultivate their land, herd their flocks, trade livestock and salt and follow traditions that have held since time immemorial. The acclaimed movie 'Himalaya' is a poignant portrayal of this stunning land.
Trekking in the Dolpo region has only been permitted since md 1989. The region lies to the west of the Kali Gandaki Valley, Dolpo is located inside the Shey-Phoksundo National Park in mid-western Nepal, behind the Dhulagiri massif, towards the Tibetan plateau.
The region offers opportunities to visit ancient villages, high passes, beautiful Lakes, isolated Buddhist monasteries and also to experience the vast array of wildlife inhabiting the region, including Blue sheep, Mountain Goat, Jackal, Wolf and the legendary Snow Leopard.
